On the 20th of March 2022, Pam & Keith Coates, the two longest residents of the Rydal Village planted an Oak tree on behalf of the Village Society to celebrate The Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee.”
Recent storms, including Storm Arwen have taken a considerable toll of many of the valleys ancient trees. However, thanks are due to Hogg and Bomber of Rydal Farm. who in recent months have planted over a hundred mixed deciduous trees, (largely Oak) in the valley.
Another tree, planted in the village for the Queens Diamond Jubilee,
is thriving on the other side of the River.
